In a speech at the Munich Security Conference on 17 February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has again urged Western powers to increase military assistance to Ukraine, stressing that Kyiv has proven its ability to defeat Russia on the battlefield.

Details: Zelenskyy pointed out that Ukrainians had "proved on the battlefield that we can force Russia to retreat" and thus shattered "the key Russian myth that Ukraine cannot win this war".

"We can get our land back, and Putin can lose. This has already happened over and over again on the battlefield. Our actions are limited only by the sufficiency and range of our weapons. However, it does not depend on us. And the situation in Avdiivka confirms this," he added.

The Ukrainian president stressed that keeping Ukraine in an artificial shortage of armaments, especially artillery and long-range weapons, "allows Putin to adapt to the current intensity of hostilities".

"This self-weakening of democracies compromises our common results," Zelenskyy concluded.
