Details: The journalist asked to confirm whether the attack on the ammunition warehouse near Bryansk was actually caused by the American ATACMS missile.

Quote: "Without superfluous detail. Ukraine has long-range capabilities and produces its own long-range drones; we now have a long-range Neptune, and not just one. We now have ATACMS. We're going to use it all."

Background:

  • On 19 November, it was reported that explosions were heard in Karachev, Bryansk Oblast of the Russian Federation, and that a fire was raging at the arsenal of a major missile and artillery storage of the Russian Federation's Ministry of Defence.
  • At the same time, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed in the morning that the defence forces hit a logistics arsenal of Russian troops near the city of Karachev, Bryansk Oblast, on the night of 18-19 November, without specifying what type of weapon was used. The Center for Countering Disinformation reported that the depot contained artillery ammunition, including North Korean-supplied ammunition for their systems, aerial bombs, anti-aircraft missiles and MLRS ammunition.
  • It was stated that as of 02:30, 12 secondary explosions and detonations had occurred in the targeted area.
  • Later, it was reported that the Ukrainian defence forces launched their first long-range ATACMS missile strike on Russia’s territory.
  • Even later, the Russian Ministry of Defence claimed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine used 6 ATACMS missiles to target a weapons depot in the city of Karachev, despite the fact that the Russian Ministry of Defence and local authorities had previously reported a drone attack.
