Details: The consequences of the strike, the extent of the damage, and information on Russian losses are currently being established.

The Russian authorities deny that the gunpowder plant was hit. Maksim Yegorov, the head of Tambov Oblast, said: "Both UAVs were shot down. There are no casualties or damage. The situation is under control."

However, local residents have been sharing videos online that clearly show a strike by one of the kamikaze drones, followed by an explosion and flames at the site.

Background:

  • Defence Intelligence has attacked the Tambov Gunpowder Plant before, on the night of 18-19 January 2024.
  • On that occasion, one of the kamikaze drones exploded at the site near the powder mixing workshop. Drones also attacked the plant in November 2023.
  • UP's source pointed out that the Tambov Gunpowder Plant is one of the largest enterprises in Russia that produces ammunition and powder for small arms. Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the plant has increased production by a third. The business has been sanctioned since March 2023.
