"Russia has occupied and switched from the network our nuclear power station… I would like to stress, this is in the interests of all of us, not just Ukrainians but also Europeans, that Russia should not make new missiles…so we have to move to another step and introduce the sanctions against the drone, the UAV and the missile industry of Russia, and also the part of their IT-sector which gives provisions and support to the Russian terror; then, we can reduce the destruction and we can remove the source of these dangerous attacks," Zelenskyy said.
He recalled that thanks to the sanctions introduced previously, Russian energy carriers will never again be a weapon against Europe.
"Finally, everyone in Europe saw how Russia really treats Europeans and the energy system on the continent, our markets, and our finances. I thank you for the sanctions packages that have already come into force. But have they sufficiently limited Russia's aggressive potential? This is a path that needs to be completed. We can analyse how these sanctions are working. So that they have neither the opportunity nor the desire to make efforts to destabilise any country in Europe or elsewhere," the president added.
Before the summit, Zelenskyy made a speech in the European Parliament, stressing that Ukraine will be a member of the EU and is doing everything necessary for this even in wartime conditions.
