Austin said that several countries have already offered help in strengthening Ukraine's air defence, mentioning France, Britain, and Germany – the latter offered to hand over the Patriot battery.

Quote: "The Netherlands is also donating Patriot missiles and launchers and [will also provide] training [on this system – ed.]. Meanwhile, Canada has procured a NASAMS system and associated munitions for Ukraine," the Pentagon chief added.

Background:

  • On 10 January, Anita Anand, Minister of National Defence of Canada, announced that Ottawa will acquire the NASAMS air defence system from the United States and transfer it to the needs of Ukraine. As you know, NASAMS systems have an extremely high-efficiency index, which will make Canada's assistance a valuable contribution to Ukraine's defence capability.
  • Ukraine received the first two NASAMS air defence systems from the United States in early November 2022. In total, the US plans to send eight such systems.
