Counter offensive in Kherson region: Armed Forces of Ukraine ask for media silence to complete the operation
VALENTYNA ROMANENKO – MONDAY, 27 JUNE 2022, 16:00
The military say that high expectations and premature reports on the Defence Forces’ progress are harming the operation to liberate Kherson Oblast from the occupiers.
Source: Natalia Humeniuk, the head of the united coordinating press centre of the Defence Forces of the South of Ukraine, at a briefing at Media Centre Ukraine - Ukrinfrom
Details: Humeniuk reminded the public that the operation to liberate the Kherson region is taking place in the steppe zone, where open combat is extremely difficult. Moreover, the artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is not as long-range as that of the Russians.
Humeniuk asked the public to be less expressive and emotional [when discussing the operation in the South] and let the military forces finish what they had planned.
Quote: "Unfortunately, certain elements of the expectations, which tend to be highly emotional, have considerably harmed our progress. So these overly joyous premature reports are highly inappropriate at a time when a military operation is ongoing.
We will only be able to report significant achievements if we manage to drive off the enemy so far that they can’t attack our positions. This is why I’m once again asking all government officials and all public figures not to get ahead of the military command and to please let the military do their job. Nobody will take the credit away from you. We’ll do it, report it – then you’re welcome to indulge in media hype."
