Russia is shelling the border area in two oblasts of Ukraine, hitting its own territory and threatening the area with aircraft

Russia continues its shelling and armed provocations at the border: on 17 May, border guards recorded 7 cases of the occupiers using weapons on the Russian-Ukrainian border in Sumy Oblast and 2 cases in the Chernihiv region.

Details: In the afternoon, the aggressors’ fire damaged houses in a country estate on the outskirts of one of the border settlements in the Shostka district in the Sumy region.

Two dozen mortar mines exploded in this area, fired from the village of Zornovo in Russia’s Bryansk Oblast. The shelling was accompanied by large-calibre machine gun fire from the invaders’ armoured vehicles.

There was also a mortar attack on Ukrainian territory from the Russian village of Lokot. Russian infiltrators had tried to enter the Sumy region from this village the day before, but they encountered resistance from border guards and retreated.

It is also reported that in two cases, the Russians fired on the border area of their own country.

Ukrainian border guards reportedly observed Russian aircraft and drones flying near the border on 17 May.

Mortar shelling of the border area was also recorded in the Horodnianskyi district of Chernihiv region, from Novye Yurkovichi in Russia.
