Quote from Victor, Kateryna’s father: "Twelve gunmen entered. The neighbours started saying that no-one was at home, but they broke down the door anyway. They said that it was an ‘object that threatens Russian statehood’."
Details: It is noted that the aggressors broke down the door "in the name of the Russian Federation".
The apartment search lasted for over 3 hours. Witnesses said that several bags of belongings were taken out of the apartment.
Background:
- On 31 July 2018, a man poured acid on activist Kateryna Handziuk near the entrance hall of a residential building in Kherson. She was taken to the intensive care unit with severe burns, and she died in hospital on 4 November 2018 after several operations.
- In June 2019, the court sentenced 5 perpetrators of the attack, who took a plea deal.
- In March 2020, Oleksiy Moskalenko (Levin), who was suspected of organising the attack, was extradited to Ukraine. The court remanded him in custody.
- In April 2020, Security Service of Ukraine investigation established that Vladyslav Manher, the former chairman of the Kherson Regional Council, had ordered the crime. He was taken into custody in June.
- Irina Venediktova removed former prosecutor Viktor Trepak from the case of the attack on Handziuk once she became Prosecutor General. Kateryna Handziuk's father called this a "disgrace."
