Kasko: New Deputy Head of SBU Is Corrupt

Former Deputy Head of the Prosecutor General’s office Vitaliy Kasko claims that Pavlo Demchyna, who was appointed the new Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) by President Petro Poroshenko, is involved in corruption, he wrote on Facebook.

"The person who used to protect the ‘diamond prosecutors’... is now the First Deputy Head for Countering Corruption at the SBU. Ironically, this happened almost exactly a year after the ‘diamond’ case," he wrote. "I have my answer to the question whether the current authorities want to fight corruption in Ukraine."

Media have previously reported that Demchyna was affiliated with the so-called ‘nut mafia’ who profit from controlling nut exports. The former Deputy Head of the SBU Viktor Trepak also said that Demchyna has close personal relations with the allegedly corrupt Petro Poroshenko Bloc MP Ihor Kononenko.
