Details: It is noted that Russia is doubling down on efforts to increase its global influence by expanding its nuclear fleet, as well as building plants in Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Iran, and Türkiye.

"We are building more than 10 different units around the world. We need a lot of energy. We will not be able to provide this energy without using… nuclear," Putin's representative Boris Titov said.

He noted that Russia expected significant demand for nuclear energy from developing countries seeking cleaner energy sources, as well as from technology companies using artificial intelligence in data centers.

Russia's portfolio of foreign nuclear projects, including reactor construction, fuel supply, and other services, covers 54 countries.

The Russian Federation is also planning to build a small modular reactor plant in Uzbekistan and signed an agreement with Burkina Faso’s ruling junta in 2023.

Washington and the EU are seeking to reduce dependence on Russian nuclear fuel, but Hungary and Slovakia oppose sanctions in this area.

With the exception of Hungary, most Eastern European countries have signed contracts for the supply of fuel developed by the American company Westinghouse after the outbreak of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Background: Despite the sanctions on the country's economy, the Russian nuclear corporation Rosatom is involved in the construction of more than a third of new reactors worldwide.
