Details: According to Prokudin, the territory is surveyed everyday by approximately a thousand demolition experts. They have already detected and destroyed over 203,000 explosive devices.

According to Prokudin, demining of Kherson Oblast’s right-bank could be completed by the end of 2025 if current rates of mine clearing works continue.

The authorities intend to expand the number of bomb experts involved. Options for establishing a mine clearance battalion based on territorial defence units or mini-detachments based on emergency rescue services are also being considered.

Background:

  • On 16 September, a 14-year-old boy was killed in a village in Kherson Oblast by the detonation of an explosive device.
  • A total of 30,000 square kilometres of Ukraine-controlled territory of Ukraine were declared free of explosive devices. Ukraine’s Defence Ministry has said that this is 17% of territory that had previously been declared contaminated by explosives.
