Details: Reports have emerged that Italy is planning to supply Ukraine with a SAMP/T system which is currently located in Kuwait. The source has not specified the time frame for the delivery.

Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera reported on 3 June that the air defence system will be supplied within the 8th military aid package for Ukraine, which is to be approved by Italian PM Giorgia Meloni’s government following the G7 summit in the middle of June.

"Trusted sources state that the executive authorities have informed Washington and Kyiv about this decision through diplomatic channels, and that the allies thanked Rome for its active contribution into Ukraine’s defence," the article says.

Ukraine received the first SAMP/T system, also known as MAMBA, in 2023. This Franco-Italian system is capable of tracking dozens of targets and intercepting 10 at a time. It is also the only EU-produced system capable of intercepting ballistic missiles.

Media reports earlier confirmed Italy's intention to supply Ukraine with another military aid package.

All supplies are officially classified, and the Italian government has never published the exact list of weapons it had sent to Ukraine.
