Kajsa Ollongren, Minister of Defence of the Netherlands, believes that it is entirely unacceptable to dismiss the nuclear threat the Kremlin poses.

Quote from Ollongren: "Of course we are aware of the Kremlin's discourse regarding nuclear [threats]. I believe that underestimating this threat is a luxury we cannot afford. Russia has nuclear weapons, it has tactics for how to deploy it, so we have to take into consideration the fact that it might at some point deploy it."

Details: Ollongrem added that everything that can be done to prevent the use of nuclear weapons has to be done. Otherwise, the [nuclear] disaster will affect everyone.

"But we have to take this possibility very seriously. It's impossible to rule it out, just as it is impossible to rule out the possibility of [Russia] using chemical and bacteriological weapons," the Dutch minister stressed.

"We are constantly reminding the Russians that they have agreed to never use nuclear weapons because that will lead to mutual destruction. So we are reminding [the Russians] of this, and at the same time, we are doing everything we can to prevent this [i.e., the use of nuclear weapons - ed.]." Ollongren added.

Previously: Tobias Ellwood, Chair of the Defence Select Committee in the British Parliament, said that if Russia carries out an attack on the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant that results in a radiation leak, this should be interpreted as an attack on the NATO countries.
