Russian troops once again demanded that Ukrainian troops defending Mariupol, who currently hold the line of defence at the Azovstal steel plant, lay down their arms and surrender.
Source: Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation
According to the Ministry of Defence: "Given the disastrous conditions on the Azovstal steel plant, as well as out of purely humanitarian concerns, the Russian Armed Forces are offering the ‘fighters of the nationalist battalions’ and foreign mercenaries to stop all combat action at 06:00 on 17 April 2022.
The lives of all those who lay down their arms will be spared."
Details: The Russian side proposed to communicate with the Ukrainian troops at 05:00 in order to exchange information.
Russian troops claim that at 05:30 they will announce a "complete ceasefire" and will "ensure" that it is unwaveringly observed.
A complete bilateral "ceasefire" would begin at 06:00, according to the Russian plan, with the raising of flags along the perimeter of the Azovstal plant: Red flags on the Russian side and white flags on the Ukrainian side.
