"We are following with great attention yesterday's reports on the use of a projectile with a poisonous substance in Mariupol against the defenders of the city."

"It is not yet possible to draw one hundred percent conclusions about what kind of substance it was. Obviously it is impossible to conduct a full investigation and full analysis in the besieged city."

"However, given the repeated threats made by Russian propagandists to use chemical weapons against the defenders of Mariupo,l and the repeated use of phosphorus munitions, for example, in Ukraine by the Russian army, the world must respond now. Respond preventively."

"Since after use of weapons of mass destruction, any post factum response will not change anything. And it will only look like a humiliation of the democratic world."

Background:

On 11 April, the "Azov" Regiment reported that the aggressors had used chemical weapons in Mariupol over the "Azovstal" plant held by Ukrainian defenders.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reminded world leaders that they had promised to react faster and more firmy if Russia used chemical weapons in Ukraine.
