According to Ukraine’s Security Service: "During World War II, the letter Z marked the building where mass murders were executed in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp.
‘Station Z’ comprised a crematorium with four furnaces in which the Nazis burned the prisoners’ bodies."
"It is already clear what the Russian forces were drawing inspiration from when they were planning the destruction of Ukraine and its civilian population. But we also remember how the Nazi regime ended."
Background: The State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection has published instructions on how to distinguish between Russian and Ukrainian military equipment.
Russian equipment is dark green and swamp green, sometimes three shades of green. Ukrainian military equipment has a pixelated pattern or a dark, olive green shade.
Russian military equipment has additional features that indicate the direction of movement:
- Slanted line: the vehicle is advancing towards Kherson.
- ‘Z’: the Kharkiv offensive; currently, such equipment is also advancing towards Kyiv from Sumy.
- Triangle: subdivisions advancing towards Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
- Circle: mobile reserve.
