Russia Closes Crimean Border Checkpoint
The Russian occupiers suspended the border crossing on their side of Chongar checkpoint in Crimea, the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service reports. This complicates the situation at the administrative border with Ukraine.
"Border guards of the occupiers are only letting those people who want to enter the temporarily occupied peninsula cross the border, and only at the Chaplynka checkpoint," the message says. Kalanchak checkpoint remains completely blocked.
According to the State Border Guard Service, during the last 24 hours no shots were fired at the positions of the border guards. Three UAVs were spotted in the ATO zone. At the administrative border, the border guards observed MI-8 helicopters six times and one UAV. The corresponding units of the Ukrainian army have been informed.
On August 7, a Crimean human rights advocacy group reported the arrival of a large amount of military equipment from Russia to Crimea through the ferry crossing in Kerch.
Ukrainian Defense Intelligence commented earlier that relocation of equipment in Crimea goes along with active preparation for the ‘Kavkaz 2016’ military training, but may be used to hide military buildup and relocation of forces.
