Kursk Oblast becomes hottest spot on front line – General Staff
As of 16:00 on Sunday, 5 January, the majority of combat clashes are taking place in Russia’s Kursk Oblast, where 42 battles have been recorded, 12 of which are ongoing.

Details: A total of 114 combat clashes have occurred since the start of the day.
Shelling from tubed artillery affected the areas of border settlements in Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts, such as Porozok, Karpovychi, Hati, Bila Bereza, Druzhba, Bachivsk, Korenok, Tymofiivka, Starikove, Petrushivka and Pokrovka. Additionally, the Russians conducted an airstrike with three guided aerial bombs on the village of Mala Rybnytsia and used unguided rockets to attack the village of Hremiachka.
On the Kharkiv front, Russian forces launched an airstrike with unguided rockets near the village of Okhrimivka.
On the Kupiansk front, Ukrainian forces are repelling Russian attacks near the village of Zahryzove, with one assault already repelled.
On the Lyman front, Russian forces, backed by air support, conducted six offensive and assault actions near the settlements of Nadiia, Tverdokhlibove, Zarichne, Novoserhiivka and Pershotravneve, with four combat clashes still ongoing.
On the Siversk front, there was one unsuccessful Russian assault.
Ukrainian defenders are repelling an assault on the Kramatorsk front near the city of Chasiv Yar, with two attacks already thwarted.
On the Toretsk front, Ukraine’s defence forces have repelled three attacks near the settlements of Toretsk, Shcherbynivka and Krymske, with two clashes ongoing.
On the Pokrovsk front, since the start of the day, the Russians have made 36 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from their positions near the settlements of Yelyzavetivka, Vozdvyzhenka, Myroliubivka, Promin, Lysivka, Novyi Trud, Pishchane, Solone, Novovasylivka, Novoyelyzavetivka and Yaseneve. The defence forces are holding their positions, having repelled 15 attacks, while 16 clashes are still ongoing. Russian losses are being confirmed.
On the Kurakhove front, Russian troops conducted 18 attacks near the settlements of Slovianka, Petropavlivka, Kurakhove and Dachne, with fighting still ongoing.
Ukrainian defenders have repelled six attacks on the Vremivka front near the settlements of Yantarne and Novyi Komar and towards Kostiantynopil, with two of these clashes still continuing. Russian aircraft struck the settlements of Andriivka, Ulakly, Temyrivka and Kostiantynopil with guided aerial bombs.
In Kursk Oblast, 42 combat clashes have occurred, with 12 of them still ongoing.
