The Russian Defence Ministry claimed that this morning’s attack on Kyiv was allegedly a "response" to the attack on the Kamensky Combine chemical plant in Russia's Rostov Oblast on 18 December.

Details: The Russian military claims the chemical plant was hit by ATACMS and Storm Shadow missiles on 18 December, but provided no details on the outcome of the attack.

In response, the Russian Defence Ministry said they launched a "high-precision, long-range" combined attack on Kyiv, targeting what they allege were a Security Service of Ukraine command post, the Luch Design Bureau, and a Patriot air defence system.

They claim all targets were successfully hit.

Earlier, Kovalenko reported on an attack on the Kamensky Combine, one of Russia's largest chemical enterprises.

The plant produces missile fuel, specialising in solid-fuel components for missile engines, including for multiple-launch missile systems and solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missiles.

It also manufactures explosives and ammunition components, and handles the disposal and neutralisation of decommissioned missile systems.

Reports suggest that production at the chemical plant has expanded during Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine.

Background: The Russians launched an attack on Kyiv on the morning of 20 December. Wreckage from intercepted Russian missiles fell in three districts of the city as a result of air defence operations. Fires broke out, one person was killed, and ten others were injured. Five cars were destroyed, and a heating pipeline was damaged.
