German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that it would be a mistake to supply Ukraine with long-range weapons or to allow strikes deep into Russian territory.

Details: Scholz stressed that Germany has become the second-largest military supporter of Ukraine under his leadership.

He stated that he remained convinced it would be a mistake for the weapons provided to Ukraine to be used for deep strikes into Russia or for weapons capable of such strikes to be supplied.

The German chancellor said it is necessary to prevent a conflict between Russia and NATO at any cost.

He added that if they (supposedly, Germany – ed.) were the only ones with the reasoning ability to make well-adjusted decisions, then so be it.

Background:

  • Scholz has consistently refused to supply Ukraine with long-range weapons.
  • For his part, the leader of the German opposition CDU/CSU bloc, Friedrich Merz, recently stated that he would supply Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles, but only after consultations with the United States.
