Poland announces visit of Ukrainian foreign minister and his meeting with Polish counterpart

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha will visit Warsaw on Tuesday, 26 November, to meet with his Polish counterpart Radosław Sikorski.

Details: According to Wroński, the ministers will discuss the situation in Ukraine, bilateral relations and the consequences of the recent Group of Five meeting in Warsaw.

A press conference between Sybiha and Sikorski will be held on Tuesday afternoon, after which the parties will begin negotiations.

The Polish Foreign Ministry spokesperson stressed that the topic of the Volyn massacre will also be raised during the meeting, as well as the issue of transatlantic ties and possible changes in US policy. [The Volyn tragedy was a series of events that led to the ethnic cleansing of the Polish and Ukrainian populations in 1943 during World War II. It was part of a long-standing rivalry between Ukrainians and Poles in what is now Ukraine's west. Poland considers the Volyn tragedy a genocide of Poles – ed.].

Previously: The meeting in the format of the Group of Five, or Weimar Triangle+, took place in Warsaw on 19 November. It was attended by the heads of diplomacy of Poland, Germany, France, Italy, who were present on the spot, and Spain and the UK, who participated remotely.

The Ukrainian foreign minister was invited but could not attend the meeting.

Background: The Polish foreign minister said that the largest EU countries are ready to provide financial and military assistance to Ukraine if the US cuts its support under the new administration led by Donald Trump.
