Details: The Security Service of Ukraine said that the agent was a lieutenant colonel, commander of one of the units of the Special Operations Forces, who was recruited by the Russians before the start of the full-scale war.

It was reported that he was remotely "called to action" by a Russian intelligence officer and assigned a task in the spring of 2024. His task was to pass on plans for the Ukrainian defence forces' combat operations in the Russian rear to the Russians.

The Russians were most interested in intelligence on sabotage and reconnaissance raids by Ukrainian special operations soldiers behind the front line on the Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Crimea fronts.

To carry out the Russians’ task, the agent used his official position to obtain information about the planned routes of movement of the defence forces, their weapons and targets.

The Russians reportedly planned to use this information to kill Ukrainian servicemen on the front line or beyond it – in the temporarily occupied part of Ukraine’s south.

Moreover, the agent also leaked information about other units of the defence forces to his Russian supervisor.

Quote from the Security Service of Ukraine: "As a result of the special operation, the Security Service’s military counterintelligence gradually documented the traitor's crimes and detained him.

Comprehensive measures were taken to secure the locations of the defence forces simultaneously.

According to the investigation, the suspect was recruited by Russian military intelligence through his acquaintances in Russia, with whom he kept in touch.

During the searches, the detainee's means of covert communication, computer equipment, mobile phone and data storage devices were seized.

The investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine served the agent with a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).

The offender is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property."

Quote from the Special Operations Forces: "The command of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirms the information revealed by the Security Service of Ukraine on the detention of a Russian intelligence mole who passed plans for special operations behind enemy lines in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine to the enemy.

The command of the Special Operations Forces was aware of the investigative actions against this serviceman and fully facilitated its conduct.

While the Special Operations Forces servicemen are performing combat missions behind enemy lines in temporarily occupied territories, unfortunately, there are those who are trying to interfere from the inside.

The Special Operations Forces continue to perform tasks, kill the enemy and liberate Ukrainian land from the occupiers. And all those thinking they can prevent this and endanger the lives of our soldiers will be exposed and sent to prison."
