Ukrainian who flooded Rosoboronexport chief's yacht in Spain still serves in Armed Forces

A Ukrainian sailor who attempted to sink a €7 million yacht in Mallorca owned by Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheev continues to serve in the Logistics Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The serviceman, whose name is Taras and who is now serving in a unit responsible for repairing military equipment under the Logistics Forces Command, shared his story.  

At the time of the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022, he was working in Spain as a senior mechanic aboard the yacht Lady Anastasia.

After seeing footage of a Russian missile striking a residential building in Kyiv, he decided to sink the yacht.

Quote: "Why did I choose to sink this particular yacht? Because its owner, Alexander Alexandrovich Mikheev, is in charge of Rosoboronexport, the Russian company responsible for producing the missiles targeting us," the soldier explained.  

"As the senior mechanic, I had round-the-clock access to the engine room. I opened the sea valve to flood the yacht, and water began pouring in. But there were three other crew members on board – guys from Odesa. And, as the saying goes, 'fellow countrymen stepped in'. They started yelling about losing their jobs and ended up reporting me to the local police," he recounted.  

Although he didn’t manage to sink the yacht fully, it was left partially flooded and was later seized. To this day, it is still lying idle in Port Adriano.  

The Ukrainian sailor said he was briefly detained after the incident, but a judge ruled that since no harm was done to Spanish property, there were no legal grounds to hold him. He was allowed to return home.
