Details: As reported, the 48-year-old Chinese man, who holds a PhD in engineering, had worked in a military-industrial corporation focused on arms production and at a modern chemistry research institute before coming to Ukraine.
In early 2017, he arrived in Ukraine and conducted intelligence activities under the guise of official scientific and technical cooperation between the two countries.
Specifically, he attempted to recruit a group of Ukrainian scientists in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. However, he was detained by the Security Service of Ukraine while attempting to acquire classified rocket and space technology.
Prior to the Chinese citizen’s release, a decision was made to deport him from Ukraine. Law enforcement authorities escorted the Chinese national to the Maiaky-Udobne – Palanka checkpoint in Odesa Oblast and handed him over to border officials for further transfer to his home country.
He is banned from entering the territory of Ukraine for the next 5 years.
