IOC president discusses return of Belarusian athletes with general secretary of Belarusian National Olympic Committee

Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), met with Ksenia Sankovich, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus and a two-time Olympic medallist in rhythmic gymnastics.

Details: Among the topics of discussion was the return of Belarusian athletes to international competitions. At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Belarusians competed as neutral athletes.

Background:

  • Earlier, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Sports Committee appealed to the President of the International Association of World Games, José Perurena López, to maintain the ban on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the 2025 World Games. 
  • It has also become known that the International Biathlon Union (IBU) will maintain the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes for the 2024/25 season.
