Russians seize house of Ukrainian Crimean Tatar singer Jamala in Crimea

Russian "authorities" in Crimea have seized the house of the winner of Eurovision 2016, Ukrainian singer Susana Dzhamaladinova (Jamala).

Details: The musician stated on Instagram that the Russians had taken her house. "They are destroying what my parents lived and breathed. What they worked so hard for and created with their own hands, blood, and sweat. They did not even take it from me. They took it from my parents," Jamala wrote.

In an interview with Ukrainska Pravda, Jamala confirmed that no one resided in the property and that it was cared for by neighbours, from whom representatives of the Russian "authorities" took the keys on 5 July.

Quote: "First they found a piece of paper [informing of the seizure of property – ed.]. Two weeks ago, ‘journalists’ came and began to film the house. Then, the day before yesterday, someone came and said that they will formalise everything. Then they came and confiscated the keys from the neighbours. They didn't even need to break in.

And today they arrived to take inventory of property. Today, we can say they took the house."

On 12 June, the Russians have reported new "seizures" of Ukrainian properties in Crimea, including assets belonging to Arsenii Yatseniuk, former Prime Minister of Ukraine; Susana Dzhamaladinova, better known as Jamala, the winner of the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest; and Kyivmiskbud, a Kyiv-based large construction company.
