Family of Crimean Tatar leader recently freed from Russian captivity leave occupied Crimea – photo

Nariman Dzhelyal, who is Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis, an executive body representing the Crimean Tatar people, was recently liberated from Russian captivity. Now his family has left Russian-occupied Crimea. 

Dzhelyal's wife Leviza and their four children have left for Ukrainian-controlled territory and are heading to Kyiv.

Details: The former political prisoner expects to be reunited with his family on the evening of 5 July. It will be the first time he has seen them in three years.

Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis, has also confirmed that Nariman Dzhelyal's family are on their way to Kyiv.

Chubarov noted that the measures that used to be taken to ensure the safety of Dzhelyal's family are now a thing of the past.

"Starting tomorrow morning, Nariman plans to personally contact the journalists who have sent him requests for communication over the last few days," the Mejlis chairman added.
