The leadership of the parliamentary faction of the far-right AfD (Alternative for Germany) said that the party ignored the speech of Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Bundestag, because he is a "war president" and Ukraine needs something else.

Details: The leaders of the AfD faction in the Bundestag, Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla, said they "refuse to listen to a speaker wearing camouflage fatigues."

Quote: "Zelensky's term in office is over. Now he is in office only as a president of war and a beggar," they added, stating that Ukraine now needs a president of peace who is willing to negotiate.

Weidel and Chrupalla repeated the Russian narrative, claiming that the Ukrainian president's tenure had ended.

The Alternative for Germany's leadership had previously agreed to boycott Zelenskyy's speech in the Bundestag, as did Sahra Wagenknecht’s Alliance, a German far-left party. Nonetheless, four AfD MPs were present for the Ukrainian president's speech.

On 11 June, the President of Ukraine arrived in Germany to attend a conference on Ukraine's recovery, the URC2024, and negotiations with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
