Russian TV airs fake video alleging Ukrainian involvement in terrorist attack, featuring Ukrainian official

Russian propagandists from the NTV TV channel have released a deepfake featuring Oleksii Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, attempting to convince audiences that "Ukraine was involved in the 22 March terrorist attack."

Details: The CCD stated that footage from the national joint 24/7 newscast on 16 March had been used to create this fake. 

In the video, the face of Kyrylo Budanov, Chief of Ukraine's Defence Intelligence (DIU), was replaced with Danilov's face. The centre also believes that Russia is intending to blame Ukraine for the terrorist attack to improve its mobilisation efforts.

Meanwhile, the FSB declared that the suspects in the terrorist attack "had connections to Ukraine."

Background:

• A total of 93 people have been killed and 107 taken to hospital as a result of a terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall near Moscow on the evening of 22 March.
