Five people lost their lives and more than 40 were injured when Russian missile debris fell on a nine-storey apartment building in Kryvyi Rih on 12 March.

Anzhela Chuvpylo, who lived in the building, was killed by shrapnel as she was walking her dog. Tetiana Yefimenko, a friend of Anzhela’s from Kyiv, talked to Ukrainska Pravda. Life about her friend.

Despite living in different cities, the two women were united by their love of animals.

"Anzhela was one of the most loyal and appreciative people I have ever known. She had a huge love of life, people, and her animals," Tetiana wrote in a post when she learned of her friend’s death.

Tetiana says Anzhela was out walking her dog with her son and granddaughter when the attack occurred. Anzhela's son managed to shield the child, and the two of them remained unharmed.

Anzhela had a cat, a dog and a rabbit. The last time Tetiana corresponded with her about animal treatment was when vets had advised Anzhela to have her cat put to sleep.

"She loved him so much that she was in tears when she asked me for help with treatment for him. She looked after her cat as if it was her child," Tetiana says.

"Anzhela worked two jobs to pay off her debts to the veterinary clinics where her animals had received treatment."

Anzhela is survived by her daughter, son and grandchildren, as well as her pets – her cat, dog and rabbit.

The family is now looking for an animal shelter because Anzhela's daughter suffers from allergies.

"Anzhela had health issues that often caused her hands to shake and made it hard for her to write or type. But she always tried to help people and contribute comments to our group," Tetiana added.
