Fighting around Bakhmut: Russians trying to advance towards Chasiv Yar – ISW
The Russians are trying to conduct an offensive on different fronts around the city of Bakhmut, specifically towards the settlement of Chasiv Yar, and heavy fighting is ongoing near the settlement of Bohdanivka.

Details: A Russian blogger claimed that on 3 January, the Russian forces had advanced northeast of Bakhmut but there were no confirmed changes on this section of the front.
He claimed that the Russian forces had resumed attacks on the northeastern and eastern flanks of the settlement of Vesele (about 18 km to the northeast from Bakhmut), and posted a map purportedly showing that Russians had advanced in these areas.
So far the ISW have not observed any visual confirmations of advances of Russian troops near Vesele.
However, according to the analysts, the Russians have recently advanced northwest of Bakhmut.
Geolocation footage posted on 2 January shows that Russian forces, likely units from the 98th Airborne (VDV) Division, advanced north of the O0506 Bakhmut-Khromove road between Bohdanivka and Khromove. Several milbloggers also claimed on 3 January that Russian forces had advanced northwest of Bakhmut in wooded areas along the O0506.
Ukrainian Ground Forces Commander Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi noted that intense fighting was ongoing near Bohdanivka and that Russian forces were trying to advance towards Chasiv Yar (west of Bakhmut).
Russian milbloggers also claimed that Russian forces advanced southwest of Bakhmut near Klishchiivka and Kurdyumivka, although the ISW has not observed visual confirmation of Russian gains in this area.
Russian and Ukrainian sources reported positional engagements northwest of Bakhmut near Bohdanivka and Khromove, west of Bakhmut near Ivanivske, and southwest of Bakhmut near Kurdyumivka, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka.
Units of the Russian 98th and 106th Airborne Divisions and units of Russia's Northern Fleet are reportedly continuing to operate in the vicinity of Bakhmut.
