Details: The video lasts a little more than 30 minutes; it shows the battle of the Ukrainian defenders against the Russian invaders, who are trying to storm their position.
Journalist Yurii Butusov said that the event took place at dawn of an autumn day near Avdiivka.
As you can hear from the recording, the soldiers say that the Russians are pushing from all sides and are already very close − in particular, on one side, they're just 15 metres away. They are hitting the Ukrainian defenders with grenade launchers, throwing grenades and firing from tanks.
Three Ukrainian soldiers out of 13 who held the videotaped part of the forest belt, including Sentsov, were injured. One fighter received severe leg injuries.
All conversations in the trenches and conversations on the walkie-talkie take place to the sound of constant gunfire − they do not subside even for a few seconds.
"There's a wounded man here. I need a place to examine him. His legs are covered in blood... Tanchyk (a diminutive form of "tank" – ed.), get down, get down! We're surrounded, tanks are coming at us," a female soldier shouts, helping the wounded man.
Then you can hear how Oleh "Hrunt" ("Soil") Sentsov, tells his brothers-in-arms on the walkie-talkie: "Four tanks drove past us, they opened fire but went to the railway station. How did you receive?".
Subsequently, the group decides to leave the forest belt in the armoured vehicles in two convoys. The first six vehicles stay with the wounded, and the other seven cover the departure, and then leave as well. In the video, the soldiers say that they need to move to the place where they disembarked, which is 50 metres away, but they warn their comrades in arms that the Russians will shoot from all sides.
Quote from a wounded soldier who has difficulty walking: "No, guys, you'll leave without me, I'll stay because it's not serious. I won't make it out of here, Max."
Quote from Sentsov: "We'll carry you... We'll get you out... We leave the machine gun, I'll take this assault rifle... you pull Alkaida [the wounded man − ed.] with both hands. Hold him, no matter how much he screams. You pull him by the arms, don't leave him."
Details: The video ends with the soldiers, together with the seriously wounded, retreating to the armoured vehicles, leaving the battlefield and handing the wounded over to the medics who are already waiting for them on the road.
Butusov said that all Ukrainian defenders survived this particular battle.
