Rheinmetall to deliver 25 Leopard 1A5 tanks to Ukraine next year
German arms company Rheinmetall announced that it will deliver 25 Leopard 1A5 main battle tanks to Ukraine next year under contract sponsored by the German government.

The message reads that the Ukrainian government signed a contract with Rheinmetall to supply Leopard 1 systems. The agreement covers 25 Leopard 1A5 main battle tanks, five armoured recovery vehicles (Bergepanzer 2) and two driver training tanks.
The German-financed order, worth double-digit millions of euros, also covers training, logistics, spare parts, maintenance and other support services.
Delivery should take place in 2024. Leopard 1 systems are currently being overhauled and are being prepared for use at Rheinmetall’s plants in Unterlüß and Kassel.
Background:
- Earlier, the Rheinmetall was ordered to supply Ukraine with a total of 80 Marder infantry fighting vehicles. Most of them are already in Ukraine.
- Rheinmetall is ready to deliver 20 more Marder BMPs as soon as it receives the relevant order.
- In late 2023 – early 2024, Ukraine will also receive five Caracal machines.
- In addition, on behalf of the governments of the Netherlands and Denmark, Rheinmetall will deliver 14 Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine next year.
- Apart from the equipment, Rheinmetall helps the Ukrainian Armed Forces with ammunition, drones, medical equipment, etc.
