Details: The Russian Foreign Ministry considers the latest explanations of the European Commission regarding the ban on entry for Russian cars to be "beyond absurd" and harmful to "ordinary Russians".

Quote: "Now it seems quite obvious the desperate desire of the current EU elite to erect a new ‘iron curtain’ in Europe, fully limiting the communication between people," the Russian Foreign Ministry claims.

The Russians regard the actions of the European Commission as "an utter provocation of EU member states to increase discrimination against Russians on the basis of their nationality". The Russian Foreign Ministry urged citizens to weigh the risks when travelling to the European Union.

"The capitals of EU states must clearly realise that they can’t hide behind the back of Brussels until the end, hide behind the notorious EU ‘solidarity’, which so openly tramples on human rights," the ministry added.

Last week, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia decided to ban entry of Russian-registered vehicles into their countries after recommendations from the European Commission. Later they were joined by Finland and Poland.
