Moldovan President says "There is nothing to talk about with aggressor country"

Maia Sandu, the President of Moldova, has said she sees no way to maintain constructive relations with Russia after everything the Kremlin has done to Ukraine.

Maia Sandu was asked about regular claims from Moscow, and she called them threats.

"Unfortunately, Russia uses such tools as threats and attempts to intimidate other countries. When we came to power, we declared that we wanted constructive relations with Russia. What kind of relationship can we have with an aggressor and a state that murders its neighbours now that this war has begun?" said Sandu.

When asked whether she plans any visits and meetings with representatives of the Russian authorities, the president said that she "has nothing to discuss with the aggressor country". 

Sandu condemned Russia's massive missile strike on Ukraine on the morning of 29 December, stressing that this was happening before the holidays and that the target once more was civilian infrastructure.

Previous massive attacks have several times led to power outages in Moldova, whose power system is closely linked to that of Ukrainian. In addition, there were cases when missiles launched in Ukraine flew over the territory of Moldova, as well as when missile fragments fell on the border territory of Moldova. Moldova expelled one Russian diplomat because of such an incident, and Moscow responded with a tit-for-tat expulsion.
