One of the detainees was a personal informer for the Russian terrorist Igor Girkin (Strelkov).

He contacted Girkin through Odnoklassniki [a Russian social network which is blocked in Ukraine] after the start of the full-scale invasion. There, he offered Girkin his "help" in the war against Ukraine.

Following the Russian terrorist’s instructions, he collected intelligence on the temporary base placement and movements of units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in and around the city of Sloviansk, Donetsk Oblast.

In addition, he gave the Russians information about the locations of local state institutions and critical infrastructure facilities.

The SSU has established that the Russian agent transferred classified intelligence via his own account, making marks on electronic maps and providing a detailed description of the surrounding area.

SSU officers exposed the criminal, documented his criminal actions, and detained him while he was attempting to transfer defence intelligence to the aggressor.

The other accomplice of the occupiers was a resident of Kleban-Byk, a village in Donetsk Oblast, who had been recruited by a representative of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) after the start of the full-scale invasion.

On the instructions of the Russian secret service, he conducted sabotage and reconnaissance activities in the Kramatorsk district of Donetsk Oblast.

The Russian accomplice’s main task was to detect convoys of Ukrainian military equipment and transmit their geolocation to Russia via an anonymous messaging app.

The SSU investigators have informed both offenders of suspicion under Art. 114-2.2-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorised dissemination, committed under martial law, of intelligence on the sending and movement of weapons, armaments and ammunition to Ukraine, or the movement or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations established in accordance with the laws of Ukraine).

This article provides for a penalty of up to 12 years’ imprisonment.

The operation was conducted by SSU officers in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts under the procedural supervision of the Oblast Prosecutor's Office.
