Exhumation in Izium to сontinue for two weeks, more graves are searched for – Mayor

The exhumation of bodies is going on in the recently liberated Izium in Kharkiv Oblast. It will continue for almost two more weeks; the corresponding services have information about more graves in that area, and their employees are searching for these.

Quote: "All services are conducting the exhumation, they are bringing out the buried people. If there is a chance, they will be identified. All bodies will be sent to Kharkiv for the following examination.
These works will continue for the next almost two weeks, because there are many graves. At the moment, the new ones have not been found yet, but they say there are more, so they are being searched for."
Details: According to the Mayor’s information, 13-15,000 people are living in Izium at the moment, and many residents [who previously escaped from Russians] are coming back to the city.
Background:
- On 16 September, Oleh Syniehubov, the head of Kharkiv Oblast Military Civilian Administration stated that 99% of the exhumed bodies in Izium, Kharkiv Oblast, had had signs of violent death.
- A mass grave containing 440 bodies was found in the liberated city of Izium in Kharkiv Oblast.
- Oleh Kotenko, the Commissioner for Persons Missing Under Special Circumstances, said that the number of people killed in Izium might be several times higher than that reported after the Bucha tragedy.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine discussed evidence of war crimes that had been committed by Russian occupying forces in the recently liberated city of Izium in Kharkiv Oblast. He confirmed that the UN would send a mission to Kharkiv.
