Details: According to the investigation, a 44-year-old resident of the Shostka district scouted border fortifications in Sumy Oblast and collected intelligence on the deployment, movement and armament of the Defence Forces of Ukraine.

The Russian Federation used the collected information to plan sabotage acts and targeted shellings of the border, the SSU notes.

Counterintelligence officers established that the Ukrainian businessman was recruited by a representative of the Russian intelligence service when he travelled to Russia for commercial purposes.

The Ukrainian special service reported that the suspect agreed to cooperate with the Russian forces because of his pro-Russian stance.

After the beginning of the large-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, the agent began to systematically transmit information to the Russian occupying forces, as instructed by his handler.

While collecting the intelligence data, he photographed military facilities and locations of the Ukrainian Defence Forces. The culprit transferred the files to the handler with reference to the area, using electronic communication channels that were created for this purpose.

According to available information, he was to be involved in sabotage activity in the future.

The detainee was charged with treason committed during the state of martial law. He will face a preventive measure in the form of detention.
