Russia's attempts to advance on Bakhmut, Soledar and Avdiivka fail – General Staff report

Russian forces attempted to advance on the cities of Bakhmut and Soledar and the villages of Kodema, Spirne and Yakovlivka, but were forced to retreat. The Ukrainian Armed Forces have also repelled Russian assaults on Avdiivka and Pisky.

Details: The situation has not changed significantly on the Volyn and Polissia fronts.

Sources indicate that on 9 August, units of territorial defence and reserve military personnel were gathered for an assembly overseen by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus.

There is a threat of missile and air strikes on targets in Ukraine from the territory of Belarus.

On the Sivershchyna front, Russian forces used tubed artillery to shell civilian infrastructure in and around Senkivka (Chernihiv Oblast) and Havrylova Sloboda, Stari Vyrky, Seredyna-Buda and Brusky (Sumy Oblast).

Russian forces used UAVs to conduct extensive aerial reconnaissance on the Kharkiv front.

Russia is focusing on improving the logistics and supply of its units on the Kharkiv front. 

Russian troops fired on areas near Svitlychne, Prudianka, Ruska Lozova, Cherkaski Tyshky, Ruski Tyshky, Verkhnii Saltiv, Staryi Saltiv, Korobochkyne and Shevelivka and conducted an airstrike near Husarivka.

In an attempt to improve their tactical positions, Russian troops conducted assault operations in the vicinity of Udy, Petrivka and Husarivka. The Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled their assaults, inflicted significant losses on the Russians and forced them to retreat.

On the Sloviansk front, Russian forces used tank guns, as well as tubed and rocket artillery, to fire on the areas in and around Dovhenke, Velyka Komyshuvakha, Virnopillia, Dibrivne, Bohorodychne, Krasnopillia and Dolyna. They attempted to break through near Velyka Komyshuvakha, but were not successful and retreated.

On the Donetsk front, the Russians attempted to push Ukrainian units back by firing on them using tubed and rocket artillery, as well as tank guns. They used UAVs to reconnoitre Ukrainian supply routes and critical infrastructure facilities.

Russian forces fired on the areas near Siversk, Verkhnokamianske, Hryhorivka and Sydorove on the Kramatorsk front.

On the Bakhmut front, Russian forces shelled civilian infrastructure near Bakhmut, Bakhmutske, Soledar, Yakovlivka and Vershyna.

Russian aircraft carried out airstrikes near Yakovlivka, Spirne, Soledar, Bakhmut, Zaitseve, Vershyna and Vesele. The Russians used UAVs to conduct aerial reconnaissance in the area.

In addition, they conducted assault and offensive operations in order to advance on Bakhmut, Kodema, Spirne, Yakovlivka and Soledar, but were unsuccessful and retreated.

On the Avdiivka front, the Russians shelled the areas in the vicinity of Avdiivka, Marinka, Pisky, Kurakhove, Such Balka and Krasnohorivka and deployed their aircraft near Krasnohorivka and Marinka.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled Russian attempts to advance on Avdiivka and Pisky, forcing Russian troops to retreat.

On the Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia fronts, Russian forces fired on the areas near Novomykhailivka, Vuhledar, Shevchenko, Velyka Novosilka, Bilohiria, Burlatske and Olhivske.

Russian aircraft conducted airstrikes in the vicinity of Pavlivka, Vuhledar, Novosilka, Novodanylivka and Poltavka. The Russians used UAVs to conduct aerial reconnaissance in the area.

Russian troops’ main efforts on the Pivdennyi Buh front were focused on maintaining their positions and preventing the Ukrainian forces from advancing. They continued to use UAVs to conduct extensive aerial reconnaissance in the area.

Additionally, the Russians fired on civilian and military infrastructure in and around Prybuzke, Lymany, Luch, Oleksandrivka, Novomykolaivka, Myrne, Blahodatne, Kobzartsi, Kniazivka and Trudoliubivka and conducted airstrikes on the areas around Andriivka, Olhyne and Novohryhorivka.

The General Staff reports that the Russians "attempted to conduct reconnaissance-in-force near Lozove, but were met with Ukrainian fire and retreated in disarray."
