Journalist Oleksandr Savochenko killed in fighting near Bakhmut

Oleksandr Savochenko, a Kyiv journalist and a native of the Chernihiv region, has died at the front in battles near Bakhmut in the Donetsk region.

Quote: "Our compatriot Oleksandr Savochenko from Poliske, born in 1986, has been killed in the battles for Ukraine near Bakhmut. On 25 February, from the very beginning of the full-scale armed aggression of the Russian enemy, he volunteered to defend Ukraine."
Details: Before the war, Oleksandr worked in Kyiv, first for STB, later at the news agency France-Presse, and then for Suspilne. He made analytical reports, in particular about economics and politics. He lived in Brovary.
The defender is survived by his wife and parents, an older brother Viktor, and a grandmother.
Oleksandr's funeral will be held in his native village of Poliske.
Background: According to the head of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, as of 25 July, 37 journalists have been killed since the beginning of the Russian aggression in Ukraine. Among the dead are eight journalists who were performing their professional duties, 12 media employees who were civilian victims, as well as 17 media representatives who were mobilised to defend Ukraine in the ranks of the defence forces.
