Missiles shot down over Odesa and the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district - Pivden [South] Operational Command
OLENA ROSHCHINA – MONDAY, 20 JUNE 2022, 08:15
Russian troops tried to launch a missile strike on the night of 19-20 June against the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district of Odesa Oblast, and against Odesa in the morning, but the missiles were destroyed in mid-air.
Source: Official message from Pivden [South] Operational Command on Odesa City Council’s Telegram channel, as well as the Suspilne Odesa, Dumskaia and Odesa.Info Telegram channels, quoting local residents.
Quote from Pivden Operational Command: "The enemy continues to attack Odesa Oblast with Onyx cruise missiles from a coastal missile system located in temporarily occupied Crimea.
At night there was an attempt to hit the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi region, and in the morning the city of Odesa itself. In both cases, air defence forces destroyed the missiles in mid-air."
Details: Reports of blasts heard in Odesa started to arrive from local residents at 07:20. An hour to an hour and a half before this, there were also reports that air defence systems in Odesa Oblast were operating.
Air-raid sirens sounded in Odesa Oblast between 07:19 and 07:34, as well as overnight, between 02:37 and 02:51.
Local Telegram channels reported that Ukrainian anti-aircraft air defence systems shot down a Russian missile over Odesa.
At the same time, other sources say that they saw smoke in Odesa as a result of an "incoming" [i.e., the missile was not intercepted but hit Odesa - ed.], but other information said that the column of smoke was due to a fire at an electrical substation, not a missile strike.
