Russian passports being distributed in Zaporizhzhia Oblast

Russia is soon to send mobile teams from its Interior Ministry to Zaporizhzhia Oblast to distribute Russian passports.

Details: This was reported by Vladimir Rogov, a member of the so-called "main council of the military-civil administration of Zaporizhzhia Oblast".

Background:

• On 25 May, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on simplified admission to Russian citizenship for residents of the occupied territories of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts of Ukraine.
• The occupation authorities said that all residents of Kherson Oblast will be entitled to Russian citizenship, and the occupied territory will return to using a Russian Empire-era emblem.
• Ukraine considers Putin's decree on Russian passports "null and void".
• On 25 May, Russian invaders informed local residents of Mariupol that they could receive Russian citizenship without obtaining interim citizenship of the so-called "DPR" [Donetsk people's republic]
• The head of the Federation Council committee for constitutional legislation, Andrii Klishas, said that residents of all Ukrainian territories seized by the Russian Federation had the right to decide whether to continue to stay with Russia – not just those living in Donbas.
