Court sentences Crimean Tatars to 17 and 13 years in prison

The Southern District Military Court in Rostov has announced the conviction of political prisoners from Crimea - Tymur Yalkabov and Lenur Seidametov, who have been sentenced to 17 and 13 years in a high-security penal colony.

Quote: "The court decided to sentence Tymur Yalkabov to 17 years of imprisonment, with the first 4 years to be served in prison, and the rest in a high-security penal colony with restrictions after serving 1 year and 6 months.

Lenur Seidametov was sentenced to 13 years' imprisonment with the first 4 years to be served in a prison, and the rest in a high-security penal colony, with restrictions after serving one year."

Details: According to the case documents, the defendants had no weapons, explosives, ammunition, did not plan to commit a terrorist act and did not urge others to commit terrorist acts. 

The lawyer pointed out that the Crimean Tatars consider themselves citizens of Ukraine, and the expulsion from Crimea to the mainland of the Russian Federation is a violation of the Geneva Convention.
