Bail for Onyshchenko Associate Increased 166-Fold
The Court of Appeals of Kyiv increased the bail for Valerii Postnyi, a suspect in a gas fraud scheme allegedly headed by MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko, from ₴1.5 million to ₴250 million, Ukrinform cites the court’s decision as of August 3.
The court partially satisfied a motion of the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) to put Postnyi into custody with a possibility to release him on ₴250 million bail.
Deputy Lead Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Volodymyr Kryvenko is happy with this decision, because the bail is 166 times higher than the one established earlier. Nonetheless, the SAP is still going to challenge this court decision and request to extend Postnyi’s custody to 60 days.
Earlier this day, the SAP requested the Court of Appeals of Kyiv to increase the bail for Postnyi from ₴1.5 million to ₴1.6 billion. The former amount was established by Solomianskyi District Court of Kyiv on June 18.
According to the investigation, Postnyi is one of Onychchenko’s key accomplices in the embezzlement of state money through gas company Ukrgazvydobuvannia.
