MP Leshchenko: Manafort Should Be Questioned in Ex-Minister of Justice Lavrynovych Case
Poroshenko Bloc MP and investigative journalist Serhiy Leshchenko thinks that the Prosecutor General should file an enquiry to the US asking to question Paul Manafort in the case of ex-Minister of Justice Oleksandr Lavrynovych, he said during a press conference on Friday, August 19.
"There are documents that show that Mr. Manafort took part in writing a report by Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, which was justifying the criminal case against former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and the court decision in this case. The documents indicate that Mr. Manafort reviewed this report himself, edited it before publication and gave comments regarding the contents of this report," Leshchenko said.
Leshchenko thinks that this episode demands a separate investigation, and "if the detectives questioned Mr. Manafort in the Skadden case, he could provide details that are lacking to prosecute Mr. Lavrynovych."
On July 13, 2015 the Prosecutor General’s Office charged Lavrynovych with misappropriation of over ₴8.5 million related to a case against Ukraine in the European Court of Human Rights.
On August 18, 2016 Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko announced that an updated notice of suspicion was handed to Lavrynovych. The indictment in his criminal case will soon be sent to the court.
