One of the heads of ‘Nikhto Krim Nas’ [En: Nobody But Us], an NGO for Soviet veterans of the war in Afghanistan, helped most of the Berkut officers who shot at the participants of the Revolution of Dignity escape and hide the rifles used in the mass shootings, the Head of the Special Investigations Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office Serhiy Horbatiuk said in an interview to LB.ua.

When asked whether this person was the head of the organization Oleksandr Kovalyov, Horbatiuk said he could not break the secrecy of the investigation and reveal the name. Horbatiuk said that this person was currently not arrested, as they are accused of concealing a crime, which is not a grave, but a moderate offense, which may lead to only up to three years in jail. The law does not prescribe arrest as a pretrial restrictive measure for such cases.

Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko claimed earlier that the person who helped Berkut escape and hide evidence was "on Maidan together with us." Not fewer than 20 Berkut officers managed to escape, and the rifles used for shooting the Heavenly Hundred were cut in pieces and jettisoned in a lake in Kyiv.
