Background:

  • At the end of January, Szijjártó indicated that there was a "long way to go" before a meeting between Zelenskyy and Orbán, adding that it would take place after Kyiv fulfils Budapest's conditions.
  • The Hungarian minister noted that if Ukraine fulfils Hungary's conditions, it will start a clean slate in bilateral relations and allow for a meeting at the highest level.
  • At the same time, after his talks with Szijjártó, Andrii Yermak, Head of the Ukrainian President's Office, announced a "strong move" towards a meeting between the leaders of Ukraine and Hungary.
