Strike on Odesa damages 28 architectural landmarks

Odesa City Council has clarified the number of buildings in the city damaged as a result of the Russian missile attack on 23 July. Now it is not up to 50, as previously believed, but more than 60, including 28 architectural landmarks.

Details: As per the information available at the moment, 61 buildings and 146 apartments were damaged in the attack on Odesa on 23 July.

City utility workers are currently clearing the rubble and the roads.

Quote: "The damage to 28 landmarks, which are considered cultural heritage, is being recorded.

Utility services are also registering damage in the apartments of Odesa residents to ensure that they receive financial assistance from the city budget.

Background: 

  • On the night of 22-23 July, the Russians fired 19 missiles of various types at Odesa Oblast, including five Oniks missiles. Air defence forces shot down nine missiles.
  • Earlier, it was reported that the strike damaged nearly 50 buildings, including 25 architectural landmarks in the historic centre of Odesa, which is under UNESCO protection.
