Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office investigators and SBU officers conduct searches in Boryspil airport, press office of Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office reported on July 26.

The searches are a part of criminal investigation of the embezzlement associated with tender fraud.

"It was established that Boryspil Airport had organized a tender to buy detectors of explosives in December 2015 and four detectors were bought for a total of ₴4.3 million ($170,000). According to the documents provided by the successful bidder, the equipment was produced in the Czech Republic," the report reads.

However, the investigation proved that the detectors had been actually produced by a Russian company. Moreover, their actual cost did not exceed ₴800,000 or five times less than Boryspil airport — a state-run company — had paid.

The searches are conducted in the premises of successful bidder, and "documents and other evidence of the fraud were seized at the place of residence of persons involved into it," the prosecutor’s office stresses.

On July 26, searches were also carried out in State Aviation Service and Seaport Administration of Ukraine on other matters.
