Source: Delfi, as reported by European Pravda
Details: Nausėda noted that more and more desperate remarks have been coming from Moscow recently.
Quote from Nausėda: "In this regard, Russia offered few surprises. It seems that it really feels backed into a corner, and lately we have clearly seen a lot of such reckless remarks. This was one of them."
Details: The president emphasised that NATO is a defensive alliance and does not plan any aggressive actions against Kaliningrad Oblast. Nausėda believes that there may be more such remarks from Moscow in the future, but they should be met calmly.
Quote from Nausėda: "Russia is now in a state where it will increasingly throw around such remarks. But we certainly shouldn't give in to provocations – we must have very clear responses."
Background:
- It was previously revealed that Russia had handed NATO a document stating the possibility of using its entire available arsenal, including nuclear weapons, in the event of an attempt by the Alliance to isolate Kaliningrad Oblast.
- NATO responded by emphasising the defensive nature of the Alliance and calling on Russia to stop its irresponsible nuclear rhetoric.
- Mark Rutte, NATO Secretary General, emphasised that Putin knows he will never be able to defeat NATO.
- Lithuania described the new Russian threats regarding Kaliningrad as psychological pressure.
